Joann has worked in education for over 30 years, ranging from pre-school to high school to post-secondary education. As a lifelong learner, Joann has always been interested in literature, humanities, mathematics, and the sciences. She began her undergraduate journey at UC San Diego as a PreMed major but returned to her calling in education and humanities with a BA in English Literature and double minors in Sociology and Education. After finishing graduate school with her Masters in Teaching at UC Irvine, Joann served as a high school English teacher and community college writing instructor for 6 years. Finding herself mentoring other new teachers, she pivoted to teacher education as a Senior Mentor at a distinguished teachers college where she counsels teacher candidates in undergraduate and graduate programs for Elementary Education and Special Education. In this role, she has graduated over 500 teacher candidates across the nation for the past 16 years and concurrently serves as a Clinical Supervisor for teacher candidates in their student teaching experiences. In addition to  her service as a teacher educator, Joann also owned and ran a long time academic international franchise, working with Pre-K - 12 math and reading. As a longtime Bend resident, Joann is excited for the opportunity to support our community and education through House of Tutor Bend. She is currently a California licensed teacher with the California Teaching Commission in single-subject English, trained in AP English and Composition, AVID instruction, and the Kumon Method.
